Every day should start with the tasty aroma of Timothy Hay. Enjoyed by large appetites as well as the fussiest of eaters, it’s high in fibre and low in protein and calcium. It contains only unchopped, dried timothy grass with larger stems, leaves and seed heads than Meadow Hay – the ideal balance of nutrition for little teeth and tummies.
At Pillow Wad, we carefully select first cut Timothy Hay for its long strands, robust stalks and naturally high fibre levels. While different cuts offer different characteristics, we love first cut for the texture and enrichment it brings to every nibble.

Your furry friends come in different sizes – so does our Timothy Hay: handy, large and Maxi.
Every pet is unique, so these figures are only a guide. How long a bag lasts will depend on your pet’s breed, size, age, appetite and how much hay they waste.
As a rough guide:
One rabbit: A large 2kg bag should last around 4 weeks.
One guinea pig: A large 2 kg bag should last around 8 weeks.
Drop us a line and we’ll help you calculate the right size to suit your nibblers.
Timothy Hay is a beautiful everyday hay for bunnies, guineas and other hay-loving nibblers.
As hay should make up around 80%-90% of your rabbit, degu or guinea pig’s daily diet, keep a generous pile available at all times, topping it up daily for grazing, munching and natural foraging.
For hamsters, mice, rats and gerbils it’s primarily used for enrichment and nesting rather than as a main food source.
Pop it in a hay rack, tray or favourite feeding spot to keep it clean, dry and ready for happy nibbling, alongside fresh water of course.
Some snaps from our pet community
Timothy Hay is a very popular everyday hay because it’s naturally high in fibre and nicely crunchy, which supports healthy teeth and helps keep your pet’s digestion in great shape.
Yes. Timothy Hay is a brilliant daily hay for adult rabbits and guinea pigs, and it’s also enjoyed by other hay-munching pets too. Keep it available to them throughout the day so there’s always something wholesome to nibble.
Timothy Hay is often chosen because it’s naturally lower in calcium than richer hays like Alfalfa Hay. That can be reassuring for adult rabbits, particularly where wee-related issues like sludge have cropped up in the past. It can matter for guinea pigs too, as urinary stones can be a concern, so many owners stick with a grass hay base day to day.
Timothy Hay has lots of fibre for steady digestion, and plenty of long-stem munching for healthy teeth.
Babies can nibble Timothy Hay, but we recommend Alfalfa Hay for youngsters (and nursing mums) because it’s richer and supports growth.
Once they’re around six month’s of age, you can move over to Timothy Hay and other grass hays as their everyday feed.
Our Farmer’s Blend is fantastic as it already provides a balanced mix of Meadow and Timothy Hays with a smattering of Alfalfa Hay to provide the variety they need without the effort.
If you’ve got a youngster, it’s worth checking what stage they’re at before switching and always transition slowly onto new hays.
