Your pets come in different sizes – so our Meadow Hay bags do too: Handy, Large and Maxi.
Every pet is unique, so these figures are only a guide. How long a bag lasts will depend on your pet’s breed, size, age, appetite and how much hay they waste.
As a rough guide:
- One rabbit: A large 2.25kg bag should last around 4 weeks.
- One guinea pig: A large 2.25 kg bag should last around 8 weeks.

Meadow Hay is a lovely, natural everyday hay for bunnies, guineas and other hay-loving nibblers.
As hay should make up around 80%-90% of your rabbit, degu or guinea pig’s daily diet, keep a generous pile available at all times, topping it up daily for grazing, munching and natural foraging.
For hamsters, mice, rats and gerbils it’s primarily used for enrichment and nesting rather than as a main food source.
Top it up daily, remove any hay that’s become damp or messy, and serve alongside fresh water of course.

Meadow hay is a natural mix of grasses, herbs and flowers grown in pasture, then dried to lock in lots of lovely fibre. The natural variety means each handful can feel a little different to the last, which keeps nibblers interested. Meadow hay naturally feels a bit softer and leafier than some single-grass hays.
Meadow hay is a solid everyday choice for adult rabbits, guinea pigs, chinchillas and degus.
Keep hay available all day, every day, so their tummies and teeth stay happy and healthy.
For hamsters, mice, rats and gerbils it’s primarily used for enrichment and nesting rather than as a main food source.
It can, but it’s not the best choice for it – hay is mainly for nibbling. It gets flattened quickly and can hold onto moisture, which means it won’t stay as fresh as a proper bedding.
For snuggling and burrowing, our Eco-Nest™ is a lovely option (absorbent and virtually dust-free). If you’re looking for something your pets can tuck into, drag around and rummage through, Barley Straw is a popular pick for rabbits making their space feel extra cosy (with a bonus of keeping them busy too).
Timothy hay is usually a bit stalkier and crunchier, while Meadow May is often softer and leafier, with more natural variety. Some pets have strong opinions, so mixing two hays can help keep nibbling interesting and consistent.
Store your hay somewhere cool, dry, and able to breathe, out of direct sunlight.
Our planet-kind bags are just right; or an open-top box in a dry room works well too – just avoid damp sheds or anywhere the hay could pick up moisture and lose its lovely smell and crunch.
If products are stored in a garage or shed make sure they are kept off the floor.
