With the UK heatwave here, lots of pet parents are wondering: how do I keep my rabbits, guinea pigs and small pets cool and comfortable?
We’ve put together some simple tips to help your pets stay fresh and comfy, a few easy ideas to beat the heat 🌿
🌾 Fresh Hay, All Day
Instead of one big pile, try offering smaller handfuls of hay more often. It keeps things fresh and tempting, and helps keep their appetites up when it’s warm ✨
🥒 Water-Rich Greens
Help them hydrate with cool, water-rich greens like cucumber, romaine or parsley. For an extra-refreshing treat, freeze these with a little water 💧 Just introduce new veggies slowly and keep that water bowl topped up.
🧊 Chill Out Your Hay
Store your hay in a dry spot, away from direct sunlight. Our planet-kind bags let it breathe beautifully — just keep them open and away from humid areas ☀️
🛏️ Lighten Up Bedding
Deep bedding can trap heat, so use thinner layers of something like Eco-Nest to absorb moisture and stay breathable.
Cool cotton mats or ceramic tiles are brilliant too for pets to lounge on.
📦 DIY Cool Dig Box
For pets who love to dig, a shallow cardboard box or tray filled with slightly damp (not soaking!) Eco-Nest can be a fun way to cool down.
🌿 Shady Hideaways
Plastic can trap heat, but our Hidey Houses offer a naturally cooler, shaded spot for your pets to relax and snooze 🐇
And don’t forget — even in the heat, fibre is key for your pets’ energy and digestion.
Our Green Oat Hay, Meadow Hay and Timothy Hay are great ways to keep them munching and happy 🌱
And if things continue to heat up (25°C+), a cool corner indoors can be the safest spot for a little downtime.
