More Information

Elderflower – traditional medicine all over the world in many different cultures due to its antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties. The most common uses are for colds and flu, sinus infections, and other respiratory disturbances. As a supplement, elderflower also has diuretic and laxative properties and is helpful in relieving occasional constipation. Elderflower has antibacterial and antiviral properties and may also help alleviate some allergies and boost the functioning of the immune system. Topically, elderflower might help reduce pain and swelling in joints due to some forms of arthritis and is used to stop bleeding.. Elderflower also reduces blood sugar levels, very similar to the way insulin works.

Hawthorn Flowering Tops – Animal and laboratory studies have found that hawthorn contains active compounds with antioxidant properties. Antioxidants are substances that scavenge free radicals; damaging compounds in the body that alter cell membranes, tamper with DNA, and even cause cell death. Free radicals occur naturally in the body, but environmental toxins (including ultraviolet light, radiation and air pollution) can also increase their number.

Free radicals are believed to contribute to the ageing process as well as the development of a number of health problems including heart disease. Antioxidants found in hawthorn can neutralise free radicals and may reduce or even help prevent some of the damage they cause.

Eyebright – It is used as an anti-inflammatory for hay fever, sinusitis, upper respiratory tract infections, and catarrh (inflammation of the mucous membranes). As an astringent, it is used for dry congestion. It also can be used for seasonal allergies and other nasal irritations.

Marigold Petals – Results from recent animal and laboratory studies show that calendula may also have some anti-infective properties, particularly against fungal infections and against viruses.

Peppermint – The main active ingredient in Peppermint is Menthol, which is an organic compound that produces a cooling sensation when applied to the mouth or skin. It also acts as a mild antiseptic (which means a compound creating a reversible loss of sensation). And can also help build a stronger immune system and has both antimicrobial and antioxidant qualities.

Peppermint also contains vitamins A and C as well as a number of minerals.

Just because rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, and rodents are small it doesn’t mean their needs should be over looked. They are just as important as any other pet and as such providing them with a rich, seasonal, stimulating environment and varied diet is a fundamental to their wellbeing.
